Radium Engineering Fuel Pulse Dampers 20-0776 Fuel Pulse Damper, FPD-R, Direct Mount, -8 AN ORB Inlet, Boost Reference, Aluminum, Green Top, Black, 1.64 in. The FPD-R and FPD-XR are CNC machined from billet aluminum, anodized for a high-quality lasting finish and laser engraved. Both FPD designs are available as either direct mount for installing on a fuel rail, or inline versions for mounting remotely near the fuel rail, and both offer multiple thread size fittings options. The FPD-XR fuel pulse damper is designed for vehicles with base fuel pressure between 43-78 PSI. The FPD-R fuel pulse damper is a compact version designed to fit into tight spaces and is intended for vehicles with base fuel pressure (the static pressure at start up and idle) between 40-45 PSI. They are ideal for use with all high performance fuel delivery systems. This new FPD design maintains full damping function throughout the range of pressures seen in the fuel system by utilizing a vacuum reference to equalize pressure on both sides of the damper diaphragm. Radium Engineering has designed the first aftermarket vacuum-referenced fuel pulse dampers, FPD-R and FPD-XR, to ensure proper fuel pulse damping at elevated fuel pressures. However, most OEM fuel pulse dampers are not ideal for use with modified fuel systems. Radium has always recognized the importance of fuel pulse dampers and has designed its fuel rails to accept them. This is done with a spring loaded flexible diaphragm inside of the damper housing. High performance vehicles running high fuel pressures, high flow injectors and boosted applications can be especially susceptible to these pulses and the related consequences.Ī fuel pulse damper works by allowing the volume of the fuel system to change slightly, providing the ability to absorb the pulses. This is commonly experienced as mysterious lean spots and stumbling during acceleration or erratic idle that is difficult to correct through EMS tuning. Hydraulic pulses from the fuel pump and the opening and closing of injectors can create undesirable noise and possible interference with injector flow. ![]() THE IMPORTANCE OF USING A FUEL PULSE DAMPER Both fuel pulse dampers are available in direct mount versions that install on a fuel rail and inline versions for use with dead-end fuel systems or that use fuel rails without a port to receive a fuel pulse damper. Radium's FPD-XR fuel pulse damper is designed for vehicles with base fuel pressure between 43-78 PSI and the compact FPD-R fuel pulse damper is designed for vehicles with base fuel pressure between 40-45 PSI. NOTE: the larger FPD-XR is not compatible as it would interfere with the starter.Radium Engineering has released two fuel pulse damper designs for use on high-performance forced induction and naturally aspirated vehicles using large aftermarket injectors. The Radium fuel pulse damper (FPD-R) mounts to the OEM location using a stainless steel bracket. Furthermore, a Radium 20-0176 FPD-R, 8AN ORB fuel pulse damper can be installed (shown in top port). Anodized aluminum adapter fittings are included to permit the use of the OEM fuel rail or an aftermarket 8AN ORB fuel rail. The OEM rubber hoses are replaced with E85 safe PTFE fuel lines. This is a great option when an aftermarket fuel pulse damper cannot be mounted directly to the fuel rail. It also replaces the fuel feed line from the filter to the fuel rail eliminating 4 restrictive banjo fittings (below).īecause this kit uses -6AN size hoses, it can be used with an aftermarket fuel rail, or with the factory fuel rail (adapters are included for both options). This Radium Engineering kit completely replaces the OEM fuel pulse damper (below) found on the JZA80 Supra 2JZ-GTE engine. THIS KIT IS NOT COMPATIBLE WITH THE RADIUM FUEL DELIVERY SYSTEM FOR THE MKIV SUPRA.
